Paddy Power Launch TV Campaign For New Football Season

Bookmaker Paddy Power is launching its second wave of TV advertising ahead of the new football season.

The new ad, to be launched from August 4th, features legendary Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar promoting the firm’s unique football betting concessions.

Surprising an unsuspecting punter by entering via his kitchen fridge, a shivering Grobbelaar recreates his famous ‘spaghetti legs’ incident from Liverpool’s 1984 European Cup Final victory. The goalkeeper goes on to explain to the bemused punter that, despite losing his flutter on the recent football match, because he bet with Paddy Power he gets his losing stake back as part of the bookmaker’s latest Money-Back Special. The Grobbelaar ad was again produced by Paddy Power’s creative agency Karmarama.

The new commercial continues the successful theme from Paddy Power’s first ever TV campaign earlier this year. It featured former cult footballer Carlton Palmer appearing in a couple’s bath, with the ad recently voted by Football Punk magazine as being amongst the Top 20 most humorous events from the last football season.

Adam Perrin, Head of Brand at Paddy Power, commented: “Humour and fun are key elements of our brand personality. This latest chapter of our campaign brings this to the fore at a key time on the football calendar, reinforcing Paddy Power’s unique concessions. We hope football fans enjoy Bruce’s colourful recreation of one of the game’s most memorable off-the-wall incidents.”
