Many go into softer sports like golf, other thrive in the toughest sport you can do while sitting down – Poker. Let’s have a look at the most successful footballers in poker.
Teddy Sheringham is perhaps the most well-known footballer to make the move from the green field to the green felt. 
He retired from professional football in 2002, at the age of 42, after having won every top-level trophy in European club football.
Sheringham’s most notable run on the poker tournament circus came in September 2009, when he went deep in a £10,000 WSOPE event (World Series of Poker – Europe) earning himself the respect of his peers as well as a paycheck worth £40,000.
Tony Cascarino from Ireland may not be as renowned as Sheringham among football fans, despite his 88 appearances for the Irish national team. But his poker merits overtrumps those of Sheringham by a few yards to be sure.
In six years of high-stakes tournament poker, Cascarino has won more than $5oo,ooo. His finest trophy is the first place in Grosvenor UK Poker Tour in November 2009, which was worth £168,800.
